Amy Winehouse suffers from food poisoning

As regards on our last class, I'm sharing this article about Amy Winehouse and her health problem.

"Back To Black singer Amy Winehouse has reportedly checked into a clinic because she is suffering from food poisoning.
The 27-year-old headed to a clinic on Harley Street in London because she felt so bad.
A source told British newspaper The Sun: 'Amy is in the clinic being treated for food poisoning. 'She hasn't said what she's eaten but has been telling patients that she feels dog rough.'
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Winehouse could be gearing up for her second marriage and is said to be to tying the knot with her boyfriend Reg Traviss."

Sherwood School's Conversation Worshop

Hi Everybody!

Here I'm again!
This time I'm embeding a video made in our Conversation Workshop which is managed by Kelly, who is our teacher from L.A.
I warning you, I'm not selling my Bass Guitar, I just tried to describe it, and finally I show that I'm not a good player, but, I can't sing, either. Hahaha!
Well, please, don't be cruel with your feedback!

BEHIND BLUE EYES

NO ONE KNOWS WHAT IT´S LIKE
BE THE TO BE THE SAD MAN
BEHIND BLUE EYES
AND NO ONE KNOWS
WHAT IT´S LIKE TO BE HATED
TO BE FATED TO TELLING ONLY LIES

[CHORUS:]
BUT MY DREAMS THEY AREN´T AS EMPTY
AS MY CONSCIENCE SEEMS TO BE
I HAVE HOURS, ONLY LONELY
MY LOVE IS VENGEANCE
THAT´S NEVER FREE

NO ONE KNOWS WHAT ITS LIKE
TO FEEL THESE FEELINGS
LIKE I DO, AND I BLAME YOU!
NO ONE BITES BACK AS HARD
ON THEIR ANGER
NONE OF MY PAIN AND WOE
CAN SHOW THROUGH

[CHORUS]

NO ONE KNOWS WHAT ITS LIKE
TO BE MISTREATED, TO BE DEFEATED
BEHIND BLUE EYES
NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO SAY
THAT THEY´RE SORRY AND DON´T WORRY
I´M NOT TELLING LIES

[CHORUS]

NO ONE KNOWS WHAT ITS LIKE
TO BE THE BAD MAN, TO BE THE SAD MAN
BEHIND BLUE EYES.

Drive / Lift / Ride / Carry

Hello Everybody!

Some days ago, we were wondering about which of this expressions could be correct.
And well, I've heard somethigs, Mariano's heard some others, so we both made our own research about it.
This is what I found.

All this expression are corrects:

  • "Can you give me a ride home?"
  • "Can you give me a lift home?"
  • "Can you drive me home?"
  • "Can I get a lift home with you ?"
  • "Can I get a ride home with you?"
  • "I'm going to get a lift/ride home"
  • "Can you carry me home?"

The British people use the word 'LIFT', while 'RIDE' is used in USA.
Aparently in the Midwestern USA the expression "Can you give me a lift?" is used, too. But only In the Southern USA, some people use 'carry,' as in "Can you carry me home?"
"Can I ride you home?" doesn't work, unless you're talking to a horse which can understand English! You are asking to "ride" the subject to whom you are making the question, that suggests that the other person will carry you on his or her back.
I've found the expression 'DRIVE YOU HOME' in some songs by American Groups, so I infere that is used in USA too. (I've just embeding one beatiful video's song below).

Well, please! Let me know your opinion or what have you found.

Lol.

Who's Gonna Drive You Home - The Cars

Who's gonna tell you when
it's too late
who's gonna tell you things
aren't so great
you can't go on
thinking nothing's wrong
who's gonna drive you home tonight
who's gonna pick you up
when you fall
who's gonna hang it up
when you call
who's gonna pay attention
to your dreams
who's gonna plug their ears
when you scream
you can't go on
thinking nothing's wrong
who's gonna drive you home tonight
who's gonna hold you down
when you shake
who's gonna come around
when you break
you can't go on
thinking nothing's wrong
who's gonna drive you home tonight
oh you know you can't go on
thinking nothing's wrong
who's gonna drive you home tonight

First Conditional

Hi my friends!
Here I am again, sharing this video which include the First Conditional in its lyric.
Enjoy it!
Hughs,
Marcelo

If you don't know me by now - by Simply Red (Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes)

If you don't know me by now
You will never never never know me

All the things
That we've been through
You should understand me
Like I understand you
Now girl I know the difference
Between right and wrong
I ain't gonna do nothing (I don't going to do nothing)
To break up our happy home
Don't get so excited
When I come home
A little late at night
Cos we only act like children (Because we...)
When we argue fuss and fight

If you don't know me by now
You will never never never know me

We've all got our
Own funny moods
I've got mine,
Woman you've got yours too
Just trust in me like I trust in you
As long as we've been together
It should be so easy to do
Just get yourself together
Or we might as well say goodbye
What good is a love affair
When you can't see eye to eye

If you don't know me by now
You will never
Never never know me

Second conditional - Conditional type 2

Hi!

I'm sharing a video in which we can find the use of the "2nd Conditional".
It's another example of a beautiful and extremely sad song. I think that the artists can express and give out all them talent, their bests, in middle of the crissis or hard times.
'Tears in heaven' is outstanding. I look up to Eric Clapton, is an exceptional guitar player and singer. He is called 'The White God of Blues'.
I hope you enjoy this video, and you'll give me a feedback.
Lol.

Marcelo

Tears in heaven - Eric Clapton

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven
Will it be the same
If I saw you in heaven
I must be strong, and carry on
Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven

Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven
I'll find my way, through night and day
Cause I know I just can't stay
Here in heaven

Time can bring you down
Time can bend your knee
Time can break your heart
Have you begging please
Begging please

(instrumental)

Beyond the door
There's peace I'm sure.
And I know there'll be no more...
Tears in heaven

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven
Will it be the same
If I saw you in heaven
I must be strong, and carry on
Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven

Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven

The tragic story

A new contribution - "Used to"

Hi everyone!

As well as you asked for, and as I promised you, I'm posting something. In this case, is related with our last class.
In this lyric you can find the use of 'used to'. But, it is so rich that we can find 'First conditional', 'Second conditional', 'Future form', 'Present perfect', 'Verbal frases', etc., too!
This song is so beautiful and at the same time is so sad. I love it for that! The guy who mixes the Freddie version and the one of Brian, did an exelent work!
I hope you enjoy it.
Hugs,
Marcelo

TO MUCH LOVE WILL KILL YOU - Brian May (QUEEN)

I'm just the pieces of the man I used to be

Too many bitter tears are raining down on me
I'm far away from home
And I've been facing this alone
For much too long

I feel like no-one ever told the truth to me
About growing up and what a struggle it would be
In my tangled state of mind
I've been looking back to find
Where I went wrong

Too much love will kill you
If you can't make up your mind
Torn between the lover
And the love you leave behind
You're headed for disaster
'cos you never read the signs

Too much love will kill you
Every time

I'm just the shadow of the man I used to be
And it seems like there's no way out of this for me
I used to bring you sunshine
Now all I ever do is bring you down

How would it be if you were standing in my shoes
Can't you see that it's impossible to choose
No there's no making sense of it
Every way I go I'm bound to lose

Too much love will kill you
Just as sure as none at all
It'll drain the power that's in you
Make you plead and scream and crawl
And the pain will make you crazy
You're the victim of your crime

Too much love will kill you
Every time

Too much love will kill you
It'll make your life a lie
Yes, too much love will kill you
And you won't understand why

You'd give your life, you'd sell your soul
But here it comes again

Too much love will kill you
In the end...
In the end.

"Too Much Love Will Kill You" is a song written by Queen guitarist Brian May, Frank Musker, and Elizabeth Lamers. The song was recorded around 1988 or before, and was intended to be on Queen's The Miracle album in 1989. In 1992, Brian May performed it at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. It also was on his solo album Back to the Light in the same year and released as a single charting in the top 10 in the UK at #5. Unheard by most Queen fans with Freddie Mercury on vocals, "Too Much Love Will Kill You" appeared on the 1995 Queen album Made in Heaven, released four years after Mercury's death. Queen's version made it to #15 on the UK singles chart in 1996. Brian May, Frank Musker and Elizabeth Lamers won an Ivor Novello award for this song, and May said later that if there was one song that he would have wanted to win an award for, it was "Too Much Love Will Kill You."
