A new contribution - "Used to"

Hi everyone!

As well as you asked for, and as I promised you, I'm posting something. In this case, is related with our last class.
In this lyric you can find the use of 'used to'. But, it is so rich that we can find 'First conditional', 'Second conditional', 'Future form', 'Present perfect', 'Verbal frases', etc., too!
This song is so beautiful and at the same time is so sad. I love it for that! The guy who mixes the Freddie version and the one of Brian, did an exelent work!
I hope you enjoy it.
Hugs,
Marcelo

TO MUCH LOVE WILL KILL YOU - Brian May (QUEEN)

I'm just the pieces of the man I used to be

Too many bitter tears are raining down on me
I'm far away from home
And I've been facing this alone
For much too long

I feel like no-one ever told the truth to me
About growing up and what a struggle it would be
In my tangled state of mind
I've been looking back to find
Where I went wrong

Too much love will kill you
If you can't make up your mind
Torn between the lover
And the love you leave behind
You're headed for disaster
'cos you never read the signs

Too much love will kill you
Every time

I'm just the shadow of the man I used to be
And it seems like there's no way out of this for me
I used to bring you sunshine
Now all I ever do is bring you down

How would it be if you were standing in my shoes
Can't you see that it's impossible to choose
No there's no making sense of it
Every way I go I'm bound to lose

Too much love will kill you
Just as sure as none at all
It'll drain the power that's in you
Make you plead and scream and crawl
And the pain will make you crazy
You're the victim of your crime

Too much love will kill you
Every time

Too much love will kill you
It'll make your life a lie
Yes, too much love will kill you
And you won't understand why

You'd give your life, you'd sell your soul
But here it comes again

Too much love will kill you
In the end...
In the end.

"Too Much Love Will Kill You" is a song written by Queen guitarist Brian May, Frank Musker, and Elizabeth Lamers. The song was recorded around 1988 or before, and was intended to be on Queen's The Miracle album in 1989. In 1992, Brian May performed it at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. It also was on his solo album Back to the Light in the same year and released as a single charting in the top 10 in the UK at #5. Unheard by most Queen fans with Freddie Mercury on vocals, "Too Much Love Will Kill You" appeared on the 1995 Queen album Made in Heaven, released four years after Mercury's death. Queen's version made it to #15 on the UK singles chart in 1996. Brian May, Frank Musker and Elizabeth Lamers won an Ivor Novello award for this song, and May said later that if there was one song that he would have wanted to win an award for, it was "Too Much Love Will Kill You." Use of "give up" in a new lyrics!

Hi, everybody!
This is another lyric that I want to share with you in order to review and improve our use of the Phrasal Verb 'give up'.
An old song from the eighties!!! Those good times plenty of really great pop music.

Never gonna give you up (Rick Astley)

We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I
A full commitment's what I'm thinking of
You wouldn't get this from any other guy

I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

We've know each other for so long
Your heart's been aching
But you're too shy to say it
Inside we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it

And if you ask me how I'm feeling
Don't tell me you're too blind to see

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Repeat Chorus

Give you up, give you up
Give you up, give you up
Never gonna give,
Never gonna give, give you up
Never gonna give,
Never gonna give, give you up

Last four lines repeated

I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

Chorus times three

Hope to hear your opinion.
Hugs,

Marcelo
